A man posing as a wealthy English pilot tried to flirt his way into getting 24,000 baht transferred into his account. Luckily the Thai lady he was trying to romance wasn’t buying it.
Police say the “English pilot” is a standard romance rip-off, stealing hearts and cash from loads of gullible Thai ladies. The romancer (aka. scammer) and the lady met on social media. By day 4 of chatting online, the man said he wanted to meet the girl in person, and possibly even marry her.
He informed her he needed to ship her presents, and she or he gave him her address in Udon Thani. He told her to name a quantity to arrange the delivery, and when she referred to as, the posed supply driver mentioned she would want to pay 24,000 baht for the service. She cottoned on to the rip-off and blocked him on social media.
Australian-based Scam Watch says relationship and romance scams start on-line and specific sturdy feelings in a brief time frame. Ridiculous say never to ship money to someone you haven’t met in person.
“Dating and romance scams typically take place through on-line relationship websites, however scammers can also use social media or e mail to make contact. They have even been identified to telephone their victims as a primary introduction. These scams are also known as ‘catfishing’.”
