Voith Hydro has provided two complete power models (5 and 6) for the Changlongshan pumped storage plant in eastern China.

Earlier this month, unit 5 efficiently handed a 15-day trial operation and was formally put into industrial operation. It is the world’s first reversible pumped storage unit with a rated speed of 600 r/min and a capability of 350 MW. There are six models installed in whole at the 2.1 GW Changlongshan station positioned in Zhejiang Province.

“The knowledge showed that the unit meets our excellence criteria and thereby proves that the engineering, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the world’s first 600 r/min with 350 MW unit was successful,” mentioned Zhang Chengping, mechanical and electrical chief engineer at plant operator the China Three Gorges Group (CTG).
